Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Psi Chi Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted nine students to its Psi Chi honor society on April 5, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Psi Chi, the Psychology Department honor society, was founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Phi Sigma Iota Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted 24 students to its Phi Sigma Iota honor society on April 13, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Phi Sigma Iota, the Department of Languages honor society, recognizes outstanding accomplishment in the study or teaching of any of the academic fields related to foreign language, literature, or culture. These fields include not only modern foreign languages, but also classics, linguistics, philology, comparative literature, bilingual education, second language acquisition, and other interdisciplinary programs with a significant foreign language component. Phi Sigma Iota is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages, with 250 chapters of Phi Sigma Iota at institutions of higher learning in the U.S., Mexico, and France.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted 31 students to its Kappa Delta Pi honor society on April 12, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Education students are eligible for membership in Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education. Founded in 1911, Kappa Delta Pi represents knowledge, duty, and power. Pioneering from its beginning by including women as well as men, KDP grew from a local chapter to the international organization it is today, comprising 600 chapters and more than 40,000 members. Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Margaret Mead are just a few of the historically known members.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 14 students to its Alpha Kappa Delta honor society on April 12, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. AKD is dedicated to the ideal of Athropon Katamannthanein Diakonesin, or "to investigate humanity for the purpose of service." AKD seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.

Lebanon Valley College Inducts Students Into Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society

Lebanon Valley College inducted one student to its Phi Alpha Theta honor society on April 3, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Phi Alpha Theta is the history national honors society that requires its members to have a department GPA of at least 3.1 and a college GPA of at least 3.0. Additionally, any potential members must have completed at least 12 history credits, though membership is not limited to history majors.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 51 students to its Phi Alpha Epsilon honor society on April 3, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Membership is limited to senior students who have achieved a 3.6 GPA, completed 24 credits of LVC coursework, and earned a bronze, silver, or gold community service award.

Lebanon Valley College inducted 141 students to its Sigma Alpha Pi honor society on April 10, 2016, as part of Inquiry 2016. Sigma Alpha Pi is the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. The Society serves as a powerful force of good in the greater community by encouraging and organizing action to better the world. Students are selected for induction based upon their GPA and level of involvement. The Society is based on six main tenets for achieving success: finding a vision, setting goals, persevering, taking risks, pursuing your passion, and continuous improvement.

Students spent part of the Spring 2015 semester at Lebanon Valley College translating a physical therapy children's book into different languages. The book, "Sammy's Physical Therapy Adventure" had previously been created by Dr. Michael Fink, associate professor of physical therapy, with the assistance of LVC students.

Lebanon Valley College Students Participate in Multicultural Student Bridge Program

The Multicultural Student Bridge Program (MSBP) is a three-day pre-orientation program geared at providing incoming first year and transfer ALANA (African/African American, Latino, Asian and Native American) and multiracial students with a jump start on college life at Lebanon Valley College. The program combines peer mentoring, residential living, academic success and leadership development to assist students in making a successful transition to college and the LVC community.

Fifty-five returning students will participate in the Peer Mentor Program and guide new and transfer students through their first few months at The Valley.
